WHAT BISEPTOL IS AND WHAT IT APPLIES
Biseptol 400 mg / 80 mg is a complex antibacterial medicinal product that contains Cotrimoxazole, a mixture of sulfamethoxazole (medium-acting sulfonamide) and trimethoprim in an appropriate ratio.
The two components of the drug act on the same chain of biochemical reactions, which increases the antibacterial effect and slows down the development of bacterial resistance.
Cotrimoxazole acts on sensitive strains of Escherichia coli (including pathogenic strains), indolposable strains of Proteus spp. (including R. vulgaris), Morganella morganii, Klebsiella spp., Proteus mirabilis, Enterobacter spp., Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Shigella flexneri, S. sonnei, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Pneumocystis prove (P. carinii).
The two components of the medicinal product are rapidly absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum blood level of the two components is reached 1 to 4 hours after oral administration. Both compounds in therapeutic concentrations are found in many tissues and body fluids.
The medicinal product is used for:
Uroinfections caused by sensitive strains of E coli, Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Morganella morganii, Proteus mirabilis and Proteus vulgaris.
Note: Preferably, non-resistant urinary infections are treated with one antibacterial drug.
Acute Otitis media caused by sensitive strains of Str. pneumoniae and H. influenzae, should the physician consider that administration of Cotrimoxazole is more justified than administering an antibiotic.
Exacerbation of chronic bronchitis caused by susceptible strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae lub H. Influenzae if the physician considers that administration of a complex medical product is more favorable than monotherapy.
Gastrointestinal infections caused by Shigella bacteria.
Microbiologically confirmed pneumonia caused by Pneumocystis jiroveci (P. carinii) and prevention of infection by germs in patients with impaired immunity (eg AIDS).
Traveler diarrhea in adults caused by enteropathogenic E. coli strains.
