What Tamiflu is and what it is used for
• Tamiflu is used in adults, adolescents, children and infants (including full-term infants) to treat influenza (influenza). It can be used when you have flu symptoms and it is known that the flu virus is circulating in society.
• Tamiflu may also be prescribed for adults, adolescents, infants and children over 1 year of age for the prevention of influenza as appropriate – for example, if you have been in contact with someone who has the flu.
• Tamiflu can be prescribed in adults, adolescents, children and infants (including full-term infants) as a prophylactic treatment in exceptional circumstances – for example, if there is a global flu epidemic (influenza pandemic) and seasonal influenza vaccine does not provide sufficient protection.
Tamiflu contains oseltamivir, which is a group of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors. These drugs prevent the spread of influenza virus in the body. They help to relieve or prevent the symptoms of influenza viral infection.
Influenza, commonly called influenza, is an infection caused by a virus. Signs of flu often include sudden fever (above 37.8 ° C), cough, runny nose, headache, muscle aches and very severe fatigue. These symptoms may also be caused by other infections. True flu infection only occurs during annual outbreaks when influenza viruses spread to the public. Outside epidemic periods, flu-like symptoms are usually caused by a different type of disease.
